Word Living - The SIA Newsletter

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Proverbs 6:6-8 (NKJV)

Each issue of Word Living looks at Scripture and applies it to everyday living. SIA urges readers to prayerfully meditate on any Scriptural reference featured in our newsletters until the Holy Spirit shows you a way to apply its truth to your own life.

WELCOME TO WORD LIVING
August 2020, Special Edition

We give praise for the opportunity to share the word of God with you.

We have sheltered-in-place, prayed, and said final goodbyes, and still the Coronavirus pandemic continues around the world.

For some, this has been a nightmare that has no end. This unseen plague has touched many families, closed major industries, halted the educational system, locked church buildings, and seems to have a command such that some fear it may never be the same as it once was.

Why is God taking so long?
What does that mean to really read the word for strength and direction?

I want this to be over. It is taking to long to get back to normal. What about graduation, my wedding plans, my vacation, and/or the new job that is on hold?

Normal may look different in order to keep us safe. I remember the storm that hit Muskegon, Michigan many years ago. After the cleanup, streets, homes, etc. was completed, some of the stores were never the same.

As we go through this time together, the Lord, I serve, is preparing us for his glory and calling us to his work. We may have to do things differently, but the message must stay the same. We must trust, obey, and seek to follow the teachings of the word that directs us in all of the issues of life.

Perhaps you disagree with decisions that block you from doing what you want to do. That is a common feeling, however, the Lord allows things in his permissive will to happen so we can learn to trust him in the storm and sunny days. Shelter in place! Hard order to follow because, we just want to do enjoy the summer, spend time with family and friends, and the list goes on.

Allow me to share a thought.

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 King James Version)

He wants to be Lord of our life and bless us as only he can. During this time, calling and sharing the word, praying with and others, sharing conversation on the phone or facetime.

The Lord has paused us for a reason. He loves us and wants to spend time in his word, share his word with others, and trust him in the pandemic.

The scripture notes several things we should be or could be doing.

In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he concludes his letter with the admonition in Philippians 4:4 to “rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Here was a church facing external pressures and internal problems, and they may have wondered if it was even possible to break out in joyful celebration.

If discouragement over the problems addressed in the letter (or anything else) was robbing the Philippians of joy, then Paul gives the solution in Philippians 4:6. There is no need to fret and worry about the way things are. The solution is to give the problems over to the Only One who can actually do something about them. The Philippians are to pray in every situation, bringing their petitions (requests) to God and offering prayers of thanksgiving for what God has already done.

Although written to the Philippian church, the principle of Philippians 4:6 applies to all believers. When we have problems and worries, we often forget to pray about them. Then, when we do pray, we may think that the only help that God can give is to grant the request as we have presented. Practically speaking, Philippians 4:6 gives us a model for the kind of prayer we need to pray when we are anxious or worried. First, we reject worry: do not be anxious about anything. Then, we simply ask God for what we need: in every situation, by prayer and petition, present your requests to God. And we thank Him for all that He has already done. Finally, we rest, knowing that He loves us and will work things out for our good and His glory. God’s peace is then ours.

Much prayer and love,
Karen

WHERE IS JESUS?

MATTHEW 25: 31-46 (Read and see how you can obey his words)

SUPPORT:
Food pantries, Shelters for the homeless, Jail and Prison Ministries, send cards to those who are sick/shut-in, and donations when possible to help with the cost of medications/and other needs, phone calls mean so much, and when possible a simple thank you note on the door, can mean so much to those who deliver mail.

Pray for all essential workers, family care givers, military personal, the poor and homeless, and the many others that work to keep us safe.

Caring for others is written throughout scriptures. When we follow the teachings of Jesus, we show his love to the world and we are blessed.
