GROCERY SHOPPING
- Plan your shopping. Check out sales and coupons.
- Always use a written list.
- Carry extra paper so you can write down the price of items you purchase and make sure that is what you are charged.
- Buy in bulk when possible. Freeze/store the extra for another time.
- AVOID shopping when you are hungry.
- AVOID prepared foods such as TV dinners, pot pie, and cakes. They are more expensive and some have very little nutritional value.
- Buy fresh fruits and vegetables at your local farmers market. Many vegetables can be frozen and cooked during the winter.
The last point provides and opening to a great idea. What if you and
several seniors got together and shared the art of canning fruits and
vegetables. The cost savings could be great but the benefit of passing
on a lost art could be life changing.
Besides, in the winter, fresh peaches, homemade jelly and jam,
applesauce, and various preserves taste great.
Scripture, prayer and homemade preserves, I can't think of a better
way to start the day.
